The Yakima Valley AVA was the first American Viticulture Area established within Washington State.  It gained recognition as an AVA in 1983.  The Yakima Valley AVA is part of the larger Columbia Valley AVA.  There are currently three Sub-appellations within the Yakima Valley AVA that demonstrate their own unique microclimates and soil conditions.  These Sub-appellations include the Red Mountain AVA created in 2001, the Rattlesnake Hills AVA created in 2006, and the Snipes Mountain AVA created in 2009.

Nearly 40% of Washington State’s yearly wine production is made from Yakima Valley grapes.  The most widely planted varietals in the area are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Riesling.  The area is also home to 80%of the US hop production.

At Northwest Wine Quest we work hard to bring you the best wines from each Northwest AVA.  We hope you enjoy these hand selected, featured artisan wines from the Yakima Valley AVA.
