The Rattlesnake Hills AVA is located within the Yakima Valley AVA of Yakima County, Washington. This AVA is contained within the larger Columbia Valley AVA. It includes a total of 68,500 acres with 1,500 of those acres planted in vineyards. It was established as an AVA in 2006 but has been a part of the wine industry since 1968 when the Morrison Vineyard planted Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon for Chateau Ste. Michelle. The AVA is centered near the city of Zillah, where it contains the highest point in the Yakima Valley AVA. It currently has 29 vineyards that produce Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Malbec, Merlot, Muscat, Canelli, Petite Syrah, Riesling, Semillon and Viognier.
