Kramer Vineyards

This winery is located in the foothills of the Coast Range in Northern Yamhill County, Oregon.  Owners Keith and Trudy Kramer planted their first grapes in April 1983 and they produced their first vintage in 1989.  Winemaker, Trudy Kramer feels that their winemaking has evolved over the years. They are an estate vineyard with 23 acres, using only their grapes for their wines. The only exception is the syrah and merlot. Since these varietals do not grow well in this area of Oregon, they must purchase them.  Kramer is considered a small boutique winery and produces an average of 2000 cases a year.  Their wines are truly handcrafted and because they are a small winery, they have complete control over the vineyard management, harvesting, winemaking and bottling.  Their attention and devotion from fruit to bottling, is very evident.

You will enjoy their newly remodeled tasting room. It has many windows that give you an incredible view of the vineyard.  Typically they have 12 bottles of wine open at all times. Their staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.  We enjoyed “stepping up to the bar” and learning about Kramer Vineyards.  It seems that each wine has a unique story and their staff is ready and willing to share a tale or two with you.  Bring a picnic on a sunny day, because they have a beautiful garden and deck area to enjoy your food and wine.  If you love dogs, you will fall in love with Cassie, their black lab, and Cosmo, their new pup who is their “winery dog in training.” They greet visitors who enter the tasting room and they even like to join you in the garden area, hoping that a special treat might be sent their way.

We featured this winery in September 2009 when we brought you their Carmine “Big Red”. During our visit to Kramer Vineyards in the early summer of 2009, we tasted their Semi-Sparkling Muller-Thurgau and we knew immediately that we had to feature it as our sparkling for the holiday season. We visited them again in October, just to refresh our memory and we were once again convinced that we had to share this special wine with you.

If you enjoy a German Riesling, then you will enjoy Muller-Thurgau. It is a cross between Riesling and Chasselas, and it is the most widely planted grape in Germany. The wines it produces are typically semidry and light.
