The Dundee Hills AVA was established in 2004. It is located in Yamhill County, Oregon, approximately 28 miles Southwest of Portland and 40 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. It is a sub-appellation within the Willamette Valley AVA and is dominated by the Jory Soil Series, which is known for its distinct red soil that is rich in iron, well drained and moderately fertile. These factors are important because it gives the grape a concentration of flavor and complexity. The main grape in this AVA is Pinot Noir. However this AVA has 6,940 total acres, 1,300 of which are planted with vineyards. There are currently 46 wineries producing wines with the Dundee Hills designation. They produce Chardonnay, Melon, Muller Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. |
